Description
You are looking at Pete Townshend's 1965 Fender Stratocaster that he owned, played, and smashed on 8-22-1968 at The Who concert at Municipal Auditorium Music Hall in Kansas City, MO. This guitar comes with the most amazing and complete set of provenance I have ever seen for an item of this magnitude. The original owner of the guitar bought his tickets for the 1st and 2nd row for the show. He kept his receipt and ticket envelope. He also kept the ticket stub. He took 17 detailed photographs during the show, which capture Pete playing and smashing this guitar. Pete smashed the guitar during My Generation and threw the pieces out into the crowd. After the show the owner waited for the band and got all 4 of their autographs. He had Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, John Entwhistle, and Keith Moon sign a piece of paper. The band's signatures can be made out but are faint on the paper. The photo that comes with the signatures is actually a photo that the owner obtained from the record store after the concert was over. They had been using the photo as a display in the store. The owner kept the ticket stubs, ticket envelope, band signatures, guitar and provenance for over 47 years! The owner of this guitar became personal friends years down the road with a man who was actually friends with Pete Townshend. In 1989 that friend took the guitar to Pete and had him formally sign it to Vance (the original owner). The original owner of this guitar wrote a detailed COA that was notarized. The guitar also comes with a COA from Rockaway Records and Heritage Auctions. This is maybe the most amazing piece of memorabilia I have ever owned with rock solid provenance. The 17 photos of The Who playing that night are simply amazing. You actually have photos of Pete playing and smashing this guitar! The winner of this auction will receive the guitar, aluminum plaque, the band's signatures, the ticket stub, the ticket envelope receipt, the 17 photos, a 2 page detailed COA from the original owner that was notarized, a COA from Heritage Auction House, and several COAs from the owner of Rockaway Records in Los Angeles. A 1965 Fender Stratocaster nowadays sells for over 20K alone! Own yourself a true piece of Rock N Roll memorabilia that is museum quality! Here is your chance to own an actual piece of Rock N Roll history. It is beyond a Hard Rock Cafe quality item.
